9 project management blogs of knowledge

I thought I was being so original by writing a project management blog. And then I happily discover there is a community of smart, funny, experienced PM’s out there merrily writing online. Here are some of the best I have come across:

  1. Papercut Edge ~ Geoff Crane is one of my favourites; he can translate an incident with his dog into a project relevant lesson. Beautifully designed.
  2. A Girls Guide to Project Management ~ Elizabeth Harrin has some great reviews of project relevant software and books. She is an expert in social media – especially useful for those managing project teams across borders.
  3. How to Manage a Camel ~ Lindsay Scott is a Director at Arras People, a specialist project recruitment company. I’m impressed with the recent and relevant market research published here. Also great tips on recruitment, redundancy and getting into project management.
  4. Silicon Beach ~ Andrew Davies and Heather Buckley run Silicon Beach Training from Brighton. This blog is jam-packed with posts on leadership, social media, and training. They also have some great free resources available for download.
  5. The Critical Path ~ Derek Huether is US based writer and project leader with a focus on PMI and Agile methods. Anyone looking to sit PMP should check out the free study tools.
  6. Stepping into Project Management – Newbie’s Diary ~ I really like this blog written by an Assistant Project Manager experiencing the joys and woes of project life. Really honest, perceptive posts.
  7. Project Offices ~ one of the few blogs I have come across that specialises in PMO; sharp, clean design with interviews and networking opportunities for those in London. Also written by Lindsay Scott of Arras People.
  8. Managing the Work ~ is the blog of Daptiv, a PPM software solution. I like the whole company focus of posts; leadership and management as well as project work. Good resources too!
  9. Project Shrink ~ Bas de Baar, has an engaging writing style, he is all about the people on projects. I can confirm that he is also a great lunch date :)

Bonus: not strictly a project management blog, Sexy Executives pokes gentle fun at corporate photography. Its like a magical mystery tour around a familiar meeting table. The description of Peter Schwab above: ‘The silly tie was probably a Christmas present from a grandchild, and he’s pulling it off well. What a nice man. Bet he doesn’t drink. Bet he doesn’t even need to drink. Imagine being that happy and relaxed without first having to drink four pints. He’s saving a fortune’.

Do let me know the links to your favourite project blogs!

Thanks so much for the mention, Sas! I’m thrilled you’ve started your own blog. The world needs more heartfelt writers, and project management needs all the glam it can get! Cheers to you! I’ve totally added you to my reader! :-)

Hi – nice looking blog! Am interested to see your upcoming posts :) Just a note though – I had a look at the Sex Execs site and thought it was kinda mean :( Particularly because it seems to be ‘poking fun’ at things that people maybe can’t do much about…

No doubt about it. It’s a little mean. But funny. Very funny.
